Zimbabwe
Africa's Best-Kept Safari Secret
Zimbabwe is Africa’s best-kept secret — a country of breathtaking natural beauty, extraordinary wildlife and some of the continent’s most experienced and celebrated safari guides. Vast wilderness areas with few tourists, genuinely world-class game and a warmth of welcome that is hard to find elsewhere. Zimbabwe is now firmly back on the safari map and those visiting today find a destination that feels unhurried, authentic and deeply rewarding.
When to Travel
DRY SEASON
May to October offers the best game viewing, with July to October producing outstanding concentrations of wildlife along the Zambezi and in Hwange. Wildlife concentrates at dwindling water sources in spectacular numbers.
GREEN / WET SEASON
Victoria Falls is spectacular year-round — the highest water levels occur between February and May, while lower levels from August to January allow visitors to cross to Livingstone Island and swim in the Devil’s Pool at the lip of the falls.
What to See
Discover the landscapes that make Zimbabwe extraordinary
Hwange National Park
Zimbabwe’s largest national park is one of Africa’s great elephant destinations — the herds here number in the thousands. But Hwange is far more than elephants: lion, leopard, wild dog, cheetah and all of the plains game are present in exceptional numbers. The private concessions offer exclusive walking safaris and the quality of guiding is among the finest in Africa.

Victoria Falls
One of the seven natural wonders of the world — Mosi-oa-Tunya, the smoke that thunders — is the largest curtain of falling water on earth. The Zimbabwean side offers the finest frontal views of the full width of the falls, along with the iconic Knife-Edge Bridge walk through permanent rainbow and spray.

Mana Pools National Park
Mana Pools is unlike any other place in Africa. A UNESCO World Heritage Site on the banks of the Zambezi, it is one of the few parks where visitors are permitted to walk unguided. The combination of river frontage, ancient acacia woodlands and extraordinary concentrations of wildlife produces some of the most atmospheric and intimate safari experiences on the continent.

Lake Kariba
One of the world’s largest man-made lakes, Kariba offers a completely different safari rhythm. Houseboat safaris drift along shores where elephant and buffalo come to drink, while tiger fishing is among the finest freshwater fishing in Africa. The sunsets over Kariba — the sky turning orange and violet above the drowned acacia trees — are among Zimbabwe’s most memorable images.
