Zambia
The Home of the Walking Safari
Zambia is the home of the walking safari — it was here, in the Luangwa Valley, that the modern tradition of exploring the bush on foot was pioneered. It remains one of Africa’s most authentic and immersive safari destinations: fewer visitors than almost anywhere else, vast and largely unfenced wilderness, exceptional guiding, and a government committed to conservation over mass tourism. Zambia rewards travellers who want to feel the ground beneath their feet and understand the bush from the inside.
When to Travel
DRY SEASON
May to October is prime safari time, with the Luangwa Valley at its best from July to October when wildlife concentrates around the river and the long grass drops. This is when the walking safari experience is at its most rewarding.
GREEN / WET SEASON
Victoria Falls is magnificent year-round — the full flood months of February to May produce the most dramatic display. Lower water levels from August onwards allow the famous Livingstone Island experience and calmer canoeing above the falls.
What to See
Discover the landscapes that make Zambia extraordinary
South Luangwa National Park
Widely regarded as one of the finest safari parks in Africa. Its landscape — meandering ox-bow lagoons, ebony groves and the wide curves of the Luangwa River — creates a concentration of wildlife that has to be seen to be believed. The birthplace of the walking safari, the guides here are among the most knowledgeable in Africa. Leopard sightings are exceptional, lion prides are large, and the wild dog population is among the continent’s most studied.

Lower Zambezi National Park
Facing Zimbabwe’s Mana Pools across the broad Zambezi River, the Lower Zambezi offers canoe safaris, fishing, game drives and walks in a wilderness of remarkable beauty. Floating silently past an elephant drinking at the water’s edge, or watching lions cooling in the shallows, are experiences that define what makes this part of Africa so special.

Kafue National Park
Zambia’s largest national park and one of the biggest in the world, Kafue sees only a fraction of the visitors that the Luangwa receives — making it one of Africa’s great secrets. The Busanga Plains in the north are particularly celebrated — seasonally flooded grasslands that attract huge herds of red lechwe, roan antelope, buffalo and the lion prides that follow them.

Victoria Falls & Livingstone
The Zambian town of Livingstone sits alongside one of the world’s great natural wonders. The spray from Victoria Falls can be seen from 50 kilometres away. Below the falls, the Zambezi offers world-class whitewater rafting. Above them, the extraordinary Livingstone Island experience — breakfast at the very edge of the falls — makes this a destination with multiple dimensions.
