Tanzania
Home of the Greatest Wildlife Show on Earth
Tanzania is home to some of the most iconic safari landscapes and wildlife spectacles on earth. The Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and Mount Kilimanjaro have defined the world’s idea of Africa for generations, and they more than live up to their reputations. But Tanzania is also a country of remarkable diversity — from the spice-scented streets of Zanzibar’s Stone Town to the remote game reserves of the south, it offers experiences that reward both the first-time visitor and the seasoned traveller.
When to Travel
DRY SEASON
The Great Migration river crossings typically occur between July and October in the northern Serengeti. June to October is ideal for the southern parks. The Serengeti is exceptional year-round for resident wildlife including lion, leopard and cheetah.
GREEN / WET SEASON
Calving season in the southern Serengeti runs from January to March — one of the most dramatic wildlife events in Africa. Zanzibar is ideal from June to October and December to February. The long rains fall in April and May.

The Serengeti & the Great Migration
The Serengeti is the greatest wildlife show on earth — two million wildebeest, zebra and gazelle moving in an eternal circle across the plains, pursued by lion, leopard, cheetah and crocodile. The scale of the migration is genuinely difficult to comprehend until you stand in the middle of it. The northern Serengeti offers perhaps the finest combination of scenery, exclusivity and wildlife density of any location in Africa.

Ngorongoro Conservation Area
The Ngorongoro Crater is a collapsed volcanic caldera — a self-contained ecosystem 20 kilometres across, its walls rising 600 metres, enclosing approximately 25,000 large animals. The density of wildlife is extraordinary: lion prides, black rhino, elephant, buffalo, hippo and the highest density of predators in Africa, all concentrated in a single bowl of grassland and forest.

The Southern Circuit — Selous & Ruaha
The southern parks are among Africa’s best-kept secrets. The Selous Game Reserve is one of the largest protected areas in the world, supporting enormous hippo and crocodile populations, exceptional elephant herds and one of the continent’s largest wild dog populations. Ruaha, to the west, is wilder and more remote — dry, rugged, baobab-studded country.

Zanzibar
The Spice Island of Zanzibar is Africa’s most evocative beach destination — ancient coral stone towns, warm turquoise waters and a Swahili culture layered with Persian, Arab, Indian and Portuguese influences. Stone Town’s narrow alleyways and carved wooden doors create an atmosphere unlike anywhere else in Africa. Zanzibar pairs naturally with any Tanzania safari.
