Cape Town: A City Like No Other

Table Mountain and the Cape Town coastline Destination Guides

Most safari itineraries to South Africa begin or end in Cape Town, and for good reason — it's one of the few cities in the world where mountain, ocean, and vineyard sit within a 45-minute drive of each other.

Table Mountain

The cable car up Table Mountain is the obvious start, but go early to beat both the queues and the cloud cover that frequently rolls in by midday.

The Winelands

Stellenbosch and Franschhoek are both within easy reach for a day of tastings. Franschhoek's wine tram is a relaxed way to visit several estates without needing a designated driver.

Kirstenbosch and the coast

Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden is worth half a day on its own, especially during the summer sunset concert series. For coastline, Camps Bay and Clifton offer the postcard views, while Boulders Beach near Simon's Town is where to find the penguins.

Pairing with safari

We typically recommend 3–4 nights in Cape Town either before or after a safari — enough time to properly unwind without rushing the city.
